Fred Barstein With 401k TV and I’m here with Sandy McCarthy who is the president of OneAmerica’s Retirement Services Group. Welcome Sandy.
Thank you. Fred.
Sandy is a 30 year industry veteran with small companies, working at small companies like Fidelity and City Street and ING, now Voya and at Mercer where she led their Asia-Pacific division. OneAmerica is a leading defined contribution, defined benefit record-keeper with over a million participants. So looking forward to chatting with Sandy about what makes OneAmerica unique and different. So Sandy, what’s makes OneAmerica unique? What makes you different from a lot of the other larger record keepers?
So Fred, I think one of the things that sets us apart is our focus on education. And my background comes into play here, right? As a teacher, as a previous professor. I think by educating our clients, we help them to keep current, we help them to keep relevant and when they’re current and relevant, they can make better informed decisions.
So give us some examples of what you’re educating your clients on now.
A couple things come to mind. We recently hosted a webinar on cyber security. We know that’s top of mind for our clients today. We conducted another webinar on fiduciary capabilities and fiduciary roles. We set out point of view statements regarding where does the industry stand on HSAs. You know, we’ve seen this convergence of health and wealth, and what’s the position of the sponsor in terms of being able to adopt that, as well as student loans.
Right. And these are issues that plan sponsors and advisors may not be able to keep up on and you try to help them to do it. Anything else that you’re focused on, technology or something?
So we continue to find ways to be able to connect with our plan sponsor clients, to be able to access portals, keep them up to date through legislative topics and things like that.
There’s a lot of legislation going on.
Absolutely. We know that so well.
Always legislation. Thank you. Well, thanks for your time today, Sandy, and thank you for watching 401k TV.
