How AI and HR Technology Are Transforming Employee Access to Benefits

More and more employers are turning to AI and integrated HR technology to help employees easily access the information they need — from payroll and scheduling to benefits and retirement plans — all in one place.

At a recent TPSU program held at Wake Forest University in Charlotte, TPSU Founder and CEO Fred Barstein sat down with Tammy, an HR Manager at a roughly 200-person company, to talk about how her organization is putting these tools to work.  Tammy explained that her company partnered with Paycor, now merged with Paychex, to bring payroll, scheduling, HR resources, and benefits information together under one roof.  The result?  Employees can now use an AI assistant to get quick answers on everything from PTO eligibility and company policies to 401(k) details — with direct links to relevant resources and handbook materials included.

It’s a simple but powerful shift.  Instead of tracking down an HR rep or digging through paperwork, employees get the information they need in seconds, creating a smoother, more connected experience for everyone.

Fred Barstein: Greetings, my name is Fred Barstein. I’m the CEO and founder of TPSU and 401kTV. We are here in downtown Charlotte at the Wake Forest University downtown campus where we just completed a TPSU program. I am here with Tammy. Welcome, Tammy.

Tammy: Thank you.

Fred Barstein: Okay, if we ask you a few questions.

Tammy: Absolutely.

Fred Barstein: Okay, before we do, tell us a little bit about you and your role and how many employees you have at your organization.

Tammy: My name is Tammy, and my role at the company is an HR manager.

Fred Barstein: Okay.

Tammy: And we have approximately about 200 employees.

Fred Barstein: 200 employees, okay. So one of the things you talked about was how you are using apps and AI to help your employees and give them more information. Tell us what you’ve been doing.

Tammy: We actually partnered with Paycor.

Fred Barstein: Is that a payroll company?

Tammy: It’s a payroll company, which they just merged with Paychex.

Fred Barstein: Okay.

Tammy: But Paycor and Paychex are now one. And what we’ve done is we’ve utilized our HRS system, ATS system. We’ve actually bunched everything in one location.

Fred Barstein: All the apps.

Tammy: All the apps in one location. It’s just in their Paycor. So we’re not having to use several different apps to go outside of our system.

Fred Barstein: Okay, and that’s why you did it.

Tammy: And that’s exactly why we did it. So it’s all inclusive, all in one place.

Fred Barstein: Right.

Tammy: And when it’s not all in one place, a lot of people or employees are not really apt to go to another app to do this, do that. They want it in one place.

Fred Barstein: So are people using it?

Tammy: They are.

Fred Barstein: Yeah, how do they use it? Give us an example.

Tammy: At the beginning, mostly they were just using it to check their time, check their schedule, and see their paycheck. But because there’s so much other information on it…

Fred Barstein: Right.

Tammy: They are now using it to, we have an AI assistant that will go in and tell you, you can say, “Oh, hey, am I eligible for PTO?” And you can put that question in there, and not only will it give you the answer, it’ll give you the resource of where you can find that information.

Fred Barstein: And does it also talk about the 401k plan?

Tammy: It does. It’s actually part of, you can say, “Does the company have a 401k plan?” And it’ll give a little bit of detail of the 401k plan, and then it’ll show you where to find that information. It’ll give you the resource.

Fred Barstein: Right. So it’ll give you the resource, either the link to the 401k plan, and it also gives you the link to our company handbook.

Tammy: Very good.

Fred Barstein: Final question, maybe a few things you learned here and would you recommend TPSU?

Tammy: I absolutely would recommend TPSU. I’ve learned a lot, actually. This is my introduction into 401k in this realm of having this many employees and understanding my responsibility and learning to ask more questions, sit down with our advisor, have those discussions, understand what they do, understand what their responsibility is to us.

Fred Barstein: Right, right, to do that. That’s great. Well, thank you for your time today. Thanks for attending TPSU.

Tammy: Oh, I appreciate it. It was great. Thank you.

Fred Barstein: And thank you for watching 401kTV.
