Retirement Advisor University and 401kTV Founder and CEO, Fred Barstein, discusses with Sandy McCarthy, President of OneAmerica’s Retirement Services Group, OneAmerica’s position in the Retirement Industry as well as what makes OneAmerica unique and different.
Ms. McCarthy shares how OneAmerica is positioned to deliver a custom experience to retirement clients. Customization can be accomplished through the URL, through imagery or even by using a plan sponsor’s logo. Such customization reinforces a connection among employers, a retirement plan and plan participants. Customization promotes that strong bond between an employer and their employees. This employer-employee bond can further facilitate an employers’ ability to acquire talent as well as employee retention. Meeting client-needs through the creative use of customization remains a major focus at OneAmerica.

Fred Barstein with 401k TV, and I’m here with Sandy McCarthy who is the president of One America’s Retirement Services Group. Welcome Sandy.
Thank you, Fred.
Sandy is a 30-year industry veteran with small companies working, at small companies like Fidelity and City Street and ING, now Voya, and at Mercer where she led their Asia Pacific division. One America is a leading defined contribution defined benefit record-keeper with over a million participants. So looking forward to chatting with Sandy about what makes One America unique and different. So Sandy, when a plan sponsor or advisor is thinking about changing, why should they consider One America? What is it about you that unique?
So Fred, one of the things that we believe is really important is customization. And customization can happen in many ways. We can customize by URL, we can customize by imagery, we can customize by using a plan sponsor’s logo. And why we believe that’s important is it really helps connect the employee to the employer. And what is more important than the employer’s benefit to the employee. So we think it’s about their plan, not ours.
So Sandy, that’s great that you customize, but why do you do it? What’s the benefit to the client?
So I think the benefit is clearly that the individual participant connects with the information, and a result of that is we’ve been able to achieve double digit increases in participation rates as well as deferral rates. And that leads to better retirement outcomes. But I think Fred, most importantly, it also helps the employer drive talent acquisition and retention. Because at the end of the day, that’s critically important to them as well.
It’s why you have a plan.
Very good. Well, thanks for your time today, Sandy, and thank you for watching 401k TV. Please stay tuned.
