Communicating with Employees in a 24/7 Workplace

Communicating with employees about the company retirement plan and optimizing the ideal plan is a daunting task for any plan sponsor. At a company with a workforce that operates 24/7, those challenges are intensified as sponsors and their providers/advisors wrestle with the simple task of scheduling training and education programs.

At a packed Plan Sponsor University (TPSU) program at Fordham University in Manhattan yesterday, a Human resources Director for a Health Care provider with 500 employees speaks about the challenges in delivering employee education to a 24/7 workforce.

Because of the constantly changing shifts, scheduling employee education programs presents a high logistical hurdle. With the help of the provider, the company has identified several optimal times to get the highest turnout and deliver the most effective messaging for employee benefit.

In assessing the optimal scheduling for employees the company has learned that different age groups were responding to different approaches in delivering education. She explained that older (baby-boomers) often responded better to one-on-one meetings, whereas millennials were more inclined to respond to web-based education modules, with video tutorials.

TPSU is a peer-to-peer educational program conducted at major colleges and universities around the U.S. Over 80 programs are offered each year where retirement professionals and plan sponsors can interact with their peers under the aegis of the industry’s leading experts and educational organization.
