Speaking to employees about benefits can be sometimes complex. Many benefits managers relegate education to third parties (often times the vendors), but are the trainers speaking the language of the plan participants?
Training participants requires more than knowing the investment products. An understanding of the employee’s financial situation, job status, salary and goals is just as important. Cylenia Benefield from Summer Manufacturing explains how her company’s mostly blue collar work-force was not familiar with advanced financial concepts and required a different type of training. She goes on to explain how fitting the training with the education level of the company employees yielded much better results.
“It comes down to knowing your audience”, said Ms. Benefield.
